Coelacanth is a rare order of fish. The two extant species include the West Indian Ocean Coelacanth (Latimeria chalumnae) and the Indonesian Coelacanth (Latimeria menadoensis). They follow the oldest known living lineage of Sarcopterygii (lobe-finned fish and tetrapods); this classification means they are more closely related to lungfish, reptiles and mammals than to the common ray-finned fishes. The species are the most endangered order of animals in the world. Both species are threatened with the The West Indian Ocean Coelacanth classified as a critically endangered species. Coelacanths have been found along the coastlines of the Indian Ocean, Indonesia, and Tanzania. Continue reading

Stacking the Dell MXL Blade Switch
The Data Center Bridging (DCB) enabled Dell MXL blade switch provides a 1/10/40GbE upstream solution for the Dell PowerEdge M1000e chassis. It comes with two fixed 40 GbE ports but is scalable up to six 40GbE ports via 40GbE FlexIO modules; this provides a total of twenty four 10GbE ports from a single blade switch using breakout cables. Other FlexIO modules available for the two FlexIO ports are a 4 port 10GbaseT module and a 4 port 10GbE SFP+ module. One Dell MXL switch can provide up to 32 line-rate 10GbE internal-facing ports for Dell blade servers. Additionally, using the 40GbE ports, 6 MXL blade switches can be stacked together. In this blog I will demonstrate how to stack 2 Dell MXL blades together. The Importance of Making Quick Decisions
As with so many things in life, I’ve found through experience just how critical and rare it is to have the ability to make quick decisions. Nowhere is this more important than in business, but it can also apply to just about any activity in one’s life. Making quick decisions is not the same as making uninformed decisions or decisions without any substance. No, making quick decisions is having the facts and being able to confidently take an action based on those facts and one’s analysis. There is no point lingering, questioning yourself over and over, and anguishing and tormenting over the facts. The facts are not going to change, and, likely, your first decision had merit to begin with or you never would have went down that road. Harnessing the Power of Dreams?
Dreaming or dreams have always fascinated me. What is this process? What are dreams? Most people would agree that they fly through our minds unremembered. The Austrian neurologist Sigmund Freud is best remembered for the analysis and work around the interpretation of dreams, associating most of them with some sort of sexual symbols expressing forbidden sexual urges hidden deep within our unconscious minds. Al Gore Delivers Great Discussion of Key Topics on Global Policy, Technology Innovation, and Key Drivers of Global Change
I attended an event today in Santa Clara, California where former Vice President of the United States, Al Gore, gave a great informal one hour discussion on key topics affecting not only the United States but the world. As this was the first time I had watched him talk live in public, I have to say I was very impressed. His ability to deliver on key points and back them up with facts as well as hold the audience’s attention were superior. It definitely is a whole other experience watching someone present live in person than on TV or radio.Connecting Dell PowerEdge M I/O Aggregator with Dell Force10 S4810 and Cisco Nexus 5548UP
The Dell PowerEdge M I//O Aggregator is a slick blade switch that plugs into the Dell PowerEdge M1000e chassis and requires barely any configuration/networking knowledge. Think of it as an advanced layer 2 switch that provides expandable uplink connectivity. The base blade comes with 2 x 40 GbE ports that by default are configured as 8 x 10 GbE ports. If desired, these ports can also be used as 40 GbE stacking ports. The Dell PowerEdge M I/O Aggregator also provide 32 internal 10 GbE connections for Dell blade servers you can install in the Dell PowerEdge M1000e chassis. If quarter-height blade servers are used, the M1000e can support up to 32 servers. This is pretty cool, not only in terms of functionality, but also in terms of the consolidation and the mess of Ethernet/power cables avoided by not using standalone components. Continue reading
Understanding and Implementing Flow Control on Dell Force10 Switches
Ethernet flow control allows for a receiving node to temporarily stop the transmission of data from the sending node. As defined by IEEE 802.3x this is accomplished via the PAUSE frame. Continue reading
Humair’s Blog – Finally Removed the Registration Requirement for Leaving Comments
Apologies for getting this done so late. I have had many requests in the past to remove the registration requirement for leaving comments. I get a ton of spam mail and spam comments, and that was the main reason for this requirement. Spam was really a pain; I also had to manually delete the spam and then search for and approve legitimate comments – I found out the hard way that I do not have enough time for this. Today I finally got around to implementing a spam filter (which as of yet remains to be seen how well it works). For now, no more registration required and no more moderation. Continue reading →
