In a prior lab, “Dell Force10 Z9000 – Creating Additional Layer 2 Isolation via Private VLANs“, I demonstrated some basics in regards to private VLANs. In this lab, I plan to go a little further and demonstrate how hosts in the same private VLANs (PVLANs) on two different switches can communicate with each other. Continue reading
Advanced Private VLAN Configuration on Dell Force10 Switches
Multi-Area OSPF – Redundancy, Route Summarization, and LSA Filtering
In this lab, all routers except for R4 and R5 are Cisco 3725 routers [IOS 12.4(15)T10]. Routers R4 and R5 are Cisco 7200 routers [IOS 12.4(24)T]. Below is the network diagram for this lab.

Dell Force10 Z9000 – Creating Additional Layer 2 Isolation via Private VLANs
Private VLANs provide additional segregation capabilities within a VLAN. A private VLAN provides further layer 2 isolation between ports. A common example of private VLAN use is a hotel providing Internet access for patrons while at the same time preventing direct access between guest ports. Instead of using private VLANs, you can create a separate VLAN and assign a separate IP subnet to each guest as shown below. Continue reading
802.1Q Trunking Between Cisco and Dell Force10 Switches
In this lab I use a Dell Force10 S25P switch [FTOS 8.4.2.6] and a Cisco C3750 switch [IOS 12.2(25)SEE3] to demonstrate 802.1Q trunking. Continue reading
EIGRP – Advertising a Default Route to Neighbors
In this lab I use five Cisco 7200 routers [IOS 12.4(24)T] to demonstrate how to advertise a default route to neighbors in EIGRP. Below is the network diagram for this lab. Continue reading
Configuring eBGP Peers to Use a Loopback Interface
In this lab, I use two Cisco 3725 routers [IOS 12.4(15)T10] to configure eBGP peers using loopback interfaces. Below is the network diagram for this lab. Continue reading
Configuring OSPF with Multiple Areas
In this lab, I use three Cisco 3725 routers [IOS 12.4(15)T10] to demonstrate how to setup OSPF with multiple Areas. Below is the network diagram for this lab. Continue reading
Important IPv6 Addresses
For easy reference, I’ve listed some important IPv6 address ranges below. Continue reading
Networking: Blocking Access to a Website via Extended Access List [Video]
This video demonstrates how to use an extended access list to prevent specific hosts from accessing a website. In this lab I use two Cisco 2811 routers [IOS 12.4(15)T1] and two Cisco 2950-24 switches [IOS 12.1(22)EA4]. Continue reading
Networking: Spanning Tree Protocol Basics [Video]
This video covers some of the basics of how Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) works in a network. To learn more about Spanning Tree Protocol see some of my prior blogs on STP. Continue reading
