Consider the fact that between 2011 and 2013, venture investors put nearly $3 billion into cyber security companies, resulting in new funding for some 300 firms (Source: Thomson Reuters). Worldwide security software revenue alone totaled $19.9 billion in 2013, a 4.9 percent increase from 2012 revenue of $19.0 billion (Source: Gartner). According to Gartner, global cybersecurity spending is to reach $76.9 billion in 2015 and $80 billion in 2016; in 2011 it stood at $55 billion. (more…)

Screen Scraping with Perl to get the top 25 Websites and the Web Servers they use

This was a really fun little script I wrote that I thought I would share with everyone. I basically wrote a Perl script using the popular LWP Perl module to screen scrape and obtain the top 25 sites and the web servers they use. Once I screen scrape to get the relevant website, I am able to send a specific request to the server to obtain further information. (more…)

SuperHappyDevHouse 28

SuperHappyDevHouse 28 was today. I just returned, and I had a blast. So many events I go to are focused heavily on the tech side, which I like, but it was nice to finally go to an event like SuperHappyDevHouse that also has a large focus on networking and socializing with other techies, creative individuals, and entrepreneurs.
