FCoE with Dell S5000 Converged Switch and Dell MXL Blade Switch [Video]

Check out the latest Dell S5000 converged switch video which demonstrates FCoE with the Dell S5000 converged switch and the Dell PowerEdge M1000e chassis w/ MXL blade switch. The Dell S5000 switch is configured in NPIV Proxy Gateway mode and the Dell MXL blade switch is configured for FCoE Transit. Additionally, the FCoE and LAN connectivity is tested by sending LAN and SAN traffic from the Dell PowerEdge M620 blade server. Multipathing over dual fabrics is also demonstrated by logging into the Fibre Channel switches and observing the FC traffic passing over both fabrics. Deploying a Dell PowerEdge M1000e Chassis with Dell Blade Servers and Dell MXL Blade Switches

In this blog I demonstrate how to setup a Dell M1000e chassis with a Dell PowerEdge M620 server and two Dell MXL blade switches [FTOS 8.3.16.2]. The Dell M1000e chassis is part of a larger network composed of three Dell S4810 switches [FTOS 9.1]. Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise is installed on the server. The Data Center Bridging (DCB) enabled Dell MXL blade switch provides a 1/10/40GbE upstream solution for the Dell PowerEdge M1000e chassis. It comes with two fixed 40 GbE ports but is scalable up to six 40GbE ports via 40GbE FlexIO modules; this provides a total of twenty four 10GbE ports from a single blade switch using breakout cables. Other FlexIO modules available for the two FlexIO ports are a 4 port 10GbaseT module and a 4 port 10GbE SFP+ module. One Dell MXL switch can provide up to 32 line-rate 10GbE internal-facing ports for Dell blade servers. Additionally, using the 40GbE ports, 6 MXL blade switches can be stacked together.
